The Orthodox Church is the national religion of Bulgaria, but it’s a mixture of tradition and paganism and few people actually practice it. But they aren’t observing any other religion either. Less than 2% of the population of this former communist country is considered to be evangelical Christian and they are seen as part of a cult by most. But every day God is at work in this region, as young men and women are being touched by the message of Jesus Christ.
We’ll travel together with our host pastor to the nearby Rila Mountain and stay at a hut there for several days to host a youth camp. Banya Camp is like a traditional youth camp with small group Bible studies, worship, games, challenges and outdoor activities.
ChristWay teens who go will serve as peer evangelists, taking part in the camp with the other campers while using your influence as an American Christian to help support and encourage the national teens, both saved and unsaved. Adults who participate will help lead breakout sessions, games and activities. Fitness is required as hiking and other adventures are a part of the camp, but you’ll stay at the same hut for the duration of the camp rather than hiking each day to a new location.
